Contemporary music and Brahms,7 aug. 2016

...I have loved Brahms’ music passionately, I could not listen to it without being deeply moved, not only because I found it admirable but also because it reminded me of my home country. Especially in the andante from the Clarinet Quintet, I could see in front of my eyes the Hungarian steppe, the faint sorrow, the hazy nostalgia of fields that extend to infinity. (George Enescu)

We had the wonderful pleasure to listen to contemporary pieces of three composers during the first part of concert on the seventh night of Academia Sighișoara. The artists and teachers of Academia Sighișoara 2016 have performed works by Hungarian composer György Ligeti, by the Swiss composer and professor of the summer academy Roland Moser, and also premiered the piece written by young Romanian composer Alexandru Sima (student of Academia Sighișoara).

After the intermission the marvellous Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115 of Johannes Brahms was performed by Alexandru Gavrilovici (violin), Andrea Duca (violin), Andrei Harabagiu (viola), Katharina Gohl Moser (cello), Aurelian Băcan (clarinet).
