Composer Cornel Ţăranu honoured at Academia Sighişoara,10 iun. 2014
This year, The Summer Academy of Sighisoara will be presenting some outstanding concerts and unique programs. For the first time in its 20 year history, the summer national and international music course will be presenting a concert dedicated solely to a Romanian composer, Cornel Taranu.
As homage to the composer, and in celebration of his 80 years of remarkable compositions, this event will become an annual feature in the Academy’s tradition and in the years to come, we hope to present an annual Romanian evening concert, each interpreted by prestigious artists. This summer’s concert of Cornel Taranu's music will take place on the 3rd of August.
The Academy’s first concert of 2014 will take place on the 1st of August, on the national day of Switzerland. It will bring together two renowned representatives of Switzerland and Romania: Arthur Honegger and George Enescu. The Arcadia Quartet and the Archita Ensemble will perform together a piece by George Enescu at the opening concert. The Honegger piece will be performed by violin and piano. The ensemble was put together by former and current members of the "George Enescu Philharmonic" from Bucharest.
These are just two of the remarkable events prepared for this season of the Academy. During the two weeks of the Academy’s activities, the streets of the Sighisoara Citadel will resonate with the music of the world’s best known composers: Roland Moser, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Leoš Janáček, Ludwig van Beethoven and others. One of the most influential Swiss composers, Roland Moser, will also return to Sighisoara this year along with other important figures such as Katharina Gohl-Moser (the rector of the Basel Music Academy), Xavier Dayer (Bern), the composition teacher of the Academy, Adelina Oprean - violin (Basel), Alexandru Gavrilovici – violin (Bern), Mirel Iancovici – cello (Maastricht), Benjamin Engeli - piano (Basel), Viniciu Moroianu - piano (Bucharest), Vladimir Lakatos - chamber music (München), Irina Gavrilovici - canto (Vienna), Sabine Kaipainen - canto (Thun), Barbara Segal - coreography and baroque dance (London).
This event has produced many years of celebrations of classical music, incredible international and Romanian artists, dedicated teachers and students who have become world-renowned artists. Behind all this work stands Alexandru Gavrilovici, the Romanian violonist who lives in Switzerland, the first concert master in Bern/Switzerland for 34 years.
"The programs of the Sighisoara Academy are constantly reborn through the years in a kaleidoscopic way. Each year’s concerts and artists become the inspiration for the next year’s activities. The 20 years we have accumulated at the Academy testify to the viability of this vision. We are happy that these wonderful artists and students come back each year to the Academy. On behalf of all the members, kind regards and many thanks to the AZOMURES Society for their support" declared Alexandru Gavrilovici.
Academia Sighisoara is co-organised as of this year by Cultura Viva Sighișoara Association (Bern) and Gheorghe Dima Academy (Cluj- Napoca) in partnership with City Hall Sighisoara.
