Băcan Aurelian
His musical education began at the age of six, playing the accordion. At the age of ten, Aurelian began playing the clarinet but by this time had developed a great passion for harmony and musical theory. He graduated from his Bachelor studies in 2008 (under Professor Ioan Goilă, at “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy, Cluj). He then continued his studies, graduating with a BA in composition in 2012 (under Professor Adrian Pop at “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy, Cluj). Thus, his musical personality has become almost complete. Confirmation of his musical qualities was realised through his positive achievements in various master classes - both in composition and in clarinet - held by György Kurtág, Răzvan Popovici, Diana Ketler, Reto Bieri and François Benda, which really established his confidence.
At present, Aurelian Băcan holds the position of principal clarinet soloist in the “Transylvania” State Philharmonic Orchestra in Cluj-Napoca, an ensemble of which he has been a member since 2009. He’s also a PHD student at “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy. In the meantime he has remained very active in the compositional field. Little by little, composition has emerged as his main focus, with the realisation that he has always wanted to become a composer.
