Join our summer academy in Sighișoara, in the heart of Transylvania, between the 1st and 14th of August 2016! Academia Sighișoara is one of the most exciting and unique summer academy and festival for young musicians and visual artists in Europe. Based in the centre of the medieval fort of Sighișoara, in a colourful and creative setting, Academia Sighișoara brings together a handful of internationally acknowledged musicians to work with the participating students, but also to perform at the Baroque Hall of Sighișoara City Hall that will hold concerts every evening during the 14 days of the academy.
This year Roland Moser (Basel) and Adrian Pop (Cluj) will return to Sighișoara to continue working with the composer students. The piano classes will be held by Swiss pianist Benjamin Engeli, Basel based Austrian pianist Anton Kernjak and Romanian pianist Viniciu Moroianu from Bucharest. Students will have the possibility to attend baroque music masterclasses too during the second week: Tobias Schabenberger will lead fortepiano classes, while Chiara Banchini will be teaching baroque violin.
Adelina Oprean, the violin teacher of the Music Academy Basel will be present at Academia Sighișoara for the third time in a row, she will work with the violinists during the first week, together with Ana Török (member of Arcadia String Quartet and concertmaster of the Transylvania State Philharmonics, Cluj) and founder and artistic director of Academia Sighișoara, Alexandru Gavrilovici (Bern). The violists will have the opportunity participate in the classes of Traian Boală (member of Arcadia String Quartet) and the other violin teachers' too. The cello classes at the 2016 Academia Sighișoara will be led by Katharina Gohl Moser (Basel) and Basel based Spanish cellist Guillermo Pastrana. Botond Kostyák (Vienna) will also return to Sighișoara to work with the young double bass students during the first week. Double bass students are welcome to stay during the second week to participate in the chamber music classes. Swiss harpist Marie Trottmann (Neuchâtel) will teach harp, while the singing classes will be held by Irina Gavrilovici (Vienna).
Chamber music courses have a major importance at our summer academy. Vladimir Lakatos (Munich) will coordinate and lead the students in their chamber music activities. The course is intended both for already active ensembles and also new groups that will be formed of the students of Academia Sighișoara. String ensembles will have the opportunity to work with Răsvan Dumitru and Zsolt Török (members of Arcadia String Quartet) on their chamber music repertoire during the first week. On the second week Phillippe Laubscher (Bern) will perform chamber pieces with organ with the students.
This is the third year in a row that the students of Academia Sighișoara will have the chance to participate in the Alexander Technique classes of Angela Schwartz (Basel). Students who are interested in individual instructions, should sign up separately to this class when registering.
Besides documenting the summer academy, a small, international group of talented photographers and visual artists will work on an artistic project that will be presented at the end of Academia Sighișoara 2016.
Academia Sighișoara starts traditionally on August 1, Switzerland’s National Day, master classes, workshops are held between the 2nd and 13th of August, and each day ends with a concert performed by the professors and artists of the summer academy, the last two days end with the final concert of the students (solo and chamber music performances, premier of the composition class’ works).
