This year we have 12 different masterclasses to offer to the registered students of Academia Sighișoara, 24th edition: piano, fortepiano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, canto, clarinet, harp, composition, chamber music and Alexander Technique.

Basel based pianists Benjamin Engeli and Anton Kernjak will lead the piano masterclasses, together with their colleague Tobias Schabenberger, who will also teach the art of playing on the historical fortepiano. A prior knowledge of fortepiano playing is not obliged for the class. It is possible to gather first experiences with fortepiano at the class at Academia Sighișoara.

Violinist will have the opportunity to work with Adelina Oprean (Basel), Ana Török and Răsvan Dumitru from the Arcadia Quartet (Cluj) and founder-director of Academia Sighișoara Alexandru Gavrilovici (Bern). The violist students can work with the violin teachers during the first week and continue with Traian Boală (Arcadia Quartet, Cluj) on the second. Swiss cellist Katharina Gohl-Moser (Basel) will return this year too for the first week of Academia Sighișoara, and together with Alexandre Foster (Stuttgart/Bern) and Zsolt Török (Arcadia Quartet, Cluj) will lead the cello class. Botond Kostyák (Vienna) will work with the double bass students.

We are honoured to have the maestra Irina Gavrilovici from Vienna leading the canto class. Aurelian Băcan (Cluj) will join also as a clarinet teacher this year; the harp students will start with the chamber music classes and continue to work with Marie Trottmann (Basel) from the second half of the summer academy. Swiss composer Roland Moser (Basel) will be leading the composition class, giving the opportunity to the students to work with him on their piece, together with the students and artists of Academia Sighișoara, and to present their piece in the final student concerts.

Chamber music is one of the most important courses at Academia SIghișoara, coordinated by Vladimir Lakatos (Munich). Currently active ensembles are welcome to join, but each student will have the opportunity to play in different ensembles, formed with the students of Academia Sighișoara 2017. Arcadia Quartet (Cluj) will also work with the chamber music ensembles starting from the second week.

We are delighted to have Angela Schwartz as the Alexander Technique teacher this year too! She will offer individual lessons for 15 registered participants (3 lessons of 30 minutes) and three group sessions (strings/pianist/singers) daily for all participants (45 minutes each). This course is intended as an intensive introduction for newcomers to the Alexander Technique or as a continuation for students who have already attended a course.

Find more details about the masterclasses and schedules on our Application / Info page! Registration will be open starting from April 3, 2017 until May 31, 2017. Visit our Registration page for further information about participation, fees and registering. Join Academia Sighișoara 2017!
