Szász Magor
Magor Szász began playing the piano at the age of 9 and double bass at the age of 11. He graduated from the Palló Imre Art School, Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania. During his school years he participated, and excelled, in numerous regional and national competitions and held concerts too. From 2008 and 2009 he was a member of the Szeklerland Symphony Orchestra as a double bass player, gaining significant experience for his following studies. In 2009 he began his university studies at the National University of Music in Bucharest in the class of Stefan Thomasz. During his BA years, Magor had the opportunity to develop as a mature musician and to perform on various stages including the Conservatory in Bucharest, the Hungarian Cultural Centre, the George Enescu Museum, Romanian Television and in other surrounding cities. He has participated in national and international competitions, winning several prizes. After winning the “Hungarian Music Festival” competition (organized by the Hungarian Cultural Centre in Bucharest), he received an invitation to perform a solo recital at the Hungarian Cultural Centre in Rome, Italy. He regularly collaborated with various major symphony orchestras in Bucharest, including the National Youth Orchestra (solo double bass), George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra (collaborating artists), and many more. He continued his master studies with Professor Dorin Marc at the Music Conservatory of Nürnberg, Germany in 2013. In recent years Magor has appeared in several international competitions and has performed recitals. He has accumulated experience in orchestras such as the Staatstheater Nürnberg and Münchner Bachscolisten. He has attended several double bass master classes, of which the most significant is the Sighisoara Summer Academy, organized each year in August in Romania. Magor has attended this event since 2006 and has worked with Professor Botond Kostyák. Other teachers with whom he has worked in other master classes include Dorin Marc, Nicolae Pop, Cătălin Rotaru, Peter Yuga. From October 2014 Magor Szász has held a solo double bass position at the Berne Symphony Orchestra, Switzerland.
